Digital Teletext comes to mobile phones

By Press Gazette

Teletext will today launch a service giving users access to much of its digital television text service, including news, weather and sports results, on mobile phones.

Teletext Mobile will be available across all mobile phone networks on WAP phones. The advertising-funded service will be free to users, except for network operators’ data charges.

Sean Grant, Teletext’s director of commercial text, said: “Launching a mobile internet service is a natural progression for Teletext as our digital and interactive services continue to grow and attract wider audiences.”

Users will be able to personalise the Teletext Mobile service using “My Teletext”.

Teletext, which is owned by Associated Newspapers, operates the analogue television text services of ITV, Channel 4 and Five as well as digital text service on Sky and Freeview for ITV and Channel 4. It already offers a number of mobile services, including a subscription SMS text alerts.
