Publicist Max Clifford will handle media deals on Scottish-born
Kenny Richey, who will be released from jail in the US later this year
after spending 17 years on Death Row.
Richey’s fiancée, Karen Torley, said that media interest in Richey
had been overwhelming since news of his release was revealed in January.
Richey
was sentenced to death in 1987 for the murder of two-year-old Cynthia
Collins, in Columbus, Ohio – a crime he claims he did not commit.
Last month, a Cincinnati court of appeal ruled that the state of Ohio must release Richey or retry him for his crime.
Torley, who befriended Richey after writing to him in jail, said: “When the news broke, it became a nightmare.
The press were outside the house for days and my poor kids ended up leaving home because it got so overwhelming.”
She
said Clifford would control all media access to herself and Richey, and
would be in charge of brokering exclusive interviews.
Richey’s release is expected to spark a media bidding war for his story.
