Davidson named Newspaper Society president

Newsquest chairman and chief executive Paul Davidson has been named president of the Newspaper Society.

He succeeds Sir Nicholas Hewitt, who is chairman and managing director of the Barnsley Chronicle.

Davidson
has been chairman at Newsquest since August 2003 and chief executive
since August 2001. Prior to joining Newsquest in 1988, then Reed
Regional Newspapers, he launched his own sales and training and
management consultancy business. He was appointed to the board at the
start of 1994 and became deputy chief executive of RRN in 1995 and
assumed his previous role of managing director in 1997.

Davidson
started his newspaper career at Thomson Regional Newspapers where he
remained for six years in various advertising sales and management
roles.

Chairman of North Wales Newspapers Ltd, Russell Whitehair, takes over as vice president.
