Daily Mail owner’s £100 million online buying spree

Daily Mail and General Trust’s two-year online buying spree
burst through the £100 million barrier this week as it spent
£46.5 million on dating and car sales websites.

Allegran operates a portfolio of dating web sites and made a profit of £7.4 million last year.
DMGT has also bought a 62.5 per cent stake in Data Media and Retail, which runs car sales websites such as Carsource.co.uk.

The acquisitions could help offset declining classified advertising from DMGT’s national and regional newspapers empire.

In December 2005, million for property sales
website Primelocation.com. In August, 2005, it bought the recruitment
websites Office Recruit and Top-Consultant for £4.1 million and in
March 2004 it paid £35 million for the recruitment website Jobsite.
