A long-standing contributor to i-D magazine has been promoted to edit the title in the run up to its silver anniversary.
Glenn Waldron replaces Avril Mair, the title’s longest-standing editor of 10 years, who has left to pursue her own fashion consultancy business.
Waldron started at i-D five years ago and worked his way up to become contributing features editor based in Berlin. He has also written for The Guardian , The Independent and Vogue as well as working as a trend consultant for MTV and the British Council.
Waldron said: “As the magazine approaches its 25th year and looks to the future, I felt that it would be an exciting time to be a part of the magazine.
Having worked for i-D in various capacities for the past five years, it feels like a natural progression.
“Under the direction of editor-inchief Terry Jones, we have a series of exciting special projects planned for our 25th year, including special ‘guest collaborators’ from the worlds of fashion, art and film.”
The recent buy-back of its stake from Tony Elliott, who acquired a 51 per cent share of the company in 1984, has returned full control of the title to its founders.
To coincide with i-D ‘s launch 25 years ago an exhibition called “Identity” will start in London and continue around the world.
i-D is in the process of appointing a new assistant editor.
