Job title: Communications & Governance Officer – Buses Directorate
Employer: Transport for London
Location: London SE1
Salary: c. £33,000 + excellent benefits
Are you ready to take the wheel at the world’s largest bus network in a high profile role where turning facts into prose is the order of the day? Then read on.
Transport for London’s bus network carries 6.5 million passengers every weekday – that’s far more journeys than the tube. Accordingly, the Buses Directorate 500-strong team that’s dedicated to delivering the ideal experience for every customer plays a pivotal role in delivering strategic goals for Surface Transport. And right now, we’re looking for a talented writer and team player to join the Director’s Office and make a direct impact on our growing and transformative network.
A complex, challenging and endlessly varied role, it will see you liaise with colleagues responsible for strategy, planning, contract management, route performance and the adoption of future technologies, as well as day-to-day operations. You’ll also liaise with department heads to ensure updates on many business subjects are adeptly conveyed across our high-profile business.
Helping to research and draft responses to Mayor's Questions and Freedom of Information inquiries, correspondence requests will be important too, as will carrying out business reporting in a timely and efficient way. We’ll also rely on you to provide assurance to senior management that board-level actions are being efficiently delivered in accordance with Surface Transport requirements. And, when it comes to drafting updates on actions arising from the Managing Director's Office, Surface Transport and TfL Board, again, we’ll turn to you.
To succeed, you’ll need to be a talented, versatile and politically astute writer who’s able to quickly turn technical information into updates for different audiences. We’ll also be looking for a track record of achieving results by building relationships and influencing people at all levels of a multi-stakeholder, performance-focused operational environment. Strong organisational skills are essential too, as is the ability to think laterally to help a business and its internal clients to balance conflicting priorities. Calm under pressure, i.e. up against tight time frames, you’ll get the job done without compromising quality, either autonomously or within a team. What’s more, you’re self-motivated, learn quickly and have the professional appearance and manner it takes to represent the directorate.
In return we offer exceptional benefits including 30 days' holiday plus public and bank holidays, a final salary pension scheme, free Tube travel and travel concessions including discounted Eurostar travel, performance-related pay and private medical benefit.
Closing date: Sunday 6 December 2015.
We reserve the right to close the application window early if we receive a high number of suitable applications.
We aspire to be as diverse as the city we serve, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.
