CNN boosts sports and news coverage

By Press Gazette

CNN is increasing its primetime output for evening news and business programmes and sport in Europe to three and a half hours of live programming from 1 March.

A new programme, Business International, will join the channel’s general breaking news bulletin World News Europe and World Business Today.

The hour-long show will be anchored live from London by Becky Anderson at 23.00 central European time.

The show will feature news summaries and live interviews in a bid to attract European viewers “who turn to CNN at the very end of their day”.

The channel is expanding European primetime sports coverage with an extra half hour of live coverage on World Sport at 22.30 CET from Tuesday to Friday. The additional programming is intended to boost the channel’s ability to cover the year’s key elections, ongoing events in Iraq and the Olympics, a spokesman said.

In addition, the three-hour block of morning programming from London, co-anchored by Richard Quest and Hala Gorani, has been renamed CNN Today.
