The Sunday Herald’s awardwinning arts correspondent, Liam McDougall, has become the paper’s health correspondent.
In the week following his appointment he managed to get a splash after securing an interview with Andrew Wakefield, the doctor at the heart of the MMR vaccine controversy.
McDougall joined the Herald in 2001. Prior to that he was investigations editor on The Big Issue, working on topics such as homelessness, mental health and depression.
“These kind of issues have, in many ways, prepared me for the position of health correspondent,” said McDougall.
McDougall began his career on The Big Issue, where he worked for two years, moving on to the Greenock Telegraph and then Scotland on Sunday, where he covered home affairs.
He returned to The Big Issue for a short stint before moving to the Sunday Herald.
McDougall replaces health editor Sarah-Kate Templeton, who now works on the newsdesk of The Times.
