Printing World has been given a substantial cash injection and undergone a relaunch with extra pages and more analysis.
CMPi is believed to have invested a seven-figure sum to reposition the title, which will increase its investigative coverage by taking on two extra reporters.
Sources said there was a feeling at CMPi that Printing World could be “punching its weight more heavily”.
The market has experienced difficulties over the past two years resulting in a fall in revenue. Printing World publishing director Allan Prosser said: “We have got some excellent journalists, who are easily the most experienced in the market. The brief I have is to give them a better platform.”
He told Press Gazette: “We are going to be investing in the journalism and in more targeted distribution. “It has been redesigned with a harder edge and a writing style that makes it more accessible to a wider range of readers without sacrificing any of the intelligence and insight. We are looking to give the print industry a publication that’s recognised overwhelmingly as a quality product.”
Prosser said there would be more analysis and investigative features covering subjects such as the impact of European health and safety legislation and industrial relations. “If you are a junior manager who is ambitious, this is the sort of publication you would turn to,” he said.
CMPi conducted extensive research into the market and has also invested in increasing the distribution.
The magazine’s print run will go up from just under 15,000 to 20,000.
The revamp follows the redesign this month of Packaging Magazine, also published by CMPi. The changes include increased product news, the bulk of which has now been moved to the front of the magazine.
