Burgess quits Lab News

By Press Gazette

Laboratory News editor Mark Burgess has left Quantum Business Media to be executive editor at The Biochemist.

He left his job frustrated at what he thought was a lack of editorial investment in the magazine.

He said he had enjoyed covering the science industry but was looking for a new challenge and a more academic environment.

“It has been exciting six years – science is always interesting. The Biochemist serves a market that has become very important in the past decade. The cracking of the genome has led to a real boom time.

“Nothing has been seen like it since the expansion in physics in the early 20th century. It’s an exciting area and it will be a real pleasure to monitor and report on it.”

Burgess studied English at Oxford University and graduated in 1981.

He worked as a computer journalist for 12 years before editing Laboratory News.
