News of the World motoring editor Ginny Buckley is leaving print journalism to take up one of the most coveted jobs in the media – presenter of BBC One series Holiday.
She takes over from Craig Doyle, who quit the show earlier this year, and is the first female presenter since Jill Dando, who was shot dead in 1999.
Buckley, 35, started her television career at the age of 12 as a junior reporter on BBC Saturday morning children’s show Swapshop.
When she was 18 she travelled to Australia and cut her professional teeth working in radio and television for five years.
After returning to the UK, Buckley got a job with Granada as a regional news reporter. She has also been motoring editor of Loaded. Buckley joined the NoW 18 months ago.
She said: “It’s without doubt a dream job. The BBC wants to make the show edgier and more investigative so it’s a challenge I can really get my teeth into. I’m quite no-nonsense; I’m a Northern girl and I say it as I see it.”
