Bryant takes up educational call

By Press Gazette

John Bryant, former editor of The European and now consultant editor of the Daily Mail, is to become the London College of Printing’s BA Journalism external examiner this summer, writes Marc Hayward.

Bryant takes over from Paul Finch, editorial director of The Architects’ Journal.

Bryant said: “I’ve been an editor but I’m still a working journalist. I’m coming to the job with a lifetime’s experience and an interest in the training of people just starting in their career.”

He said he partly accepted the position in order to combat scepticism among some Fleet Street editors that media degrees are a waste of time.

Bryant added: “I think that we ought to be doing something proactive, and finding out whether there’s any suggestions we can make that would make them more acceptable to newspapers.”
