Brian Sansome: features editor of the Reading Evening Post

By Press Gazette

Brian Sansome, the former features editor of the Reading Evening Post, has died aged 68.

Sansome began as a news reporter with the weekly Reading Standard in 1951 and went on to become sports editor. When the Standard became the Reading Evening Post in 1965, he was made deputy sports editor.

He left to join the Evening Mail in Uxbridge as sports editor in 1969, before returning to the Reading Evening Post as senior sub-editor in 1982. He was promoted to features editor the following year and special publications editor in 1987.

Sansome retired in 2000 and moved to Bexhill, East Sussex, with his wife, Peggy, and their beloved Yorkie, Stanley, enjoying many walks along the seafront. He was a great socialiser and sports fan, and a keen follower of Reading FC.

Reading Evening Post editor, Andy Murrill, said: “I knew Brian as a committed and talented journalist whose experience I valued highly. He knew newspapers inside out – they were in his blood. We are all very upset at his passing and our thoughts are with his family.”

Sansome leaves a widow and daughters Teresa, Karen and Jeanette, and two grandchildren, David and Christopher. His funeral was held at Hastings Crematorium.
