Brewer honours journalists

Kentish
Express reporter Mike Bennett and BBC Radio Kent breakfast show
presenter John Warnett were honoured in the 17th annual Shepherd Neame
Kent journalist of the year awards.

Bennett, chief reporter of the Ashford-based Express was voted 2004 Shepherd Neame Kent journalist of the Year.

Warnett,
whose Good Morning Kent news and current affairs phone-in runs
weekdays, received the Bishops Finger Kent broadcast journalist of the
year.

Amy Woodland, currently chief reporter on the Hythe edition
of the Folkestone Herald, won Shepherd Neame Kent young journalist of
the year.

T he East Kent Mercury and its reporter Sarah Linney
were awarded the Kent campaign of the year award following their battle
to prevent the closure of Ripple School, Kent’s smallest community
school, which has just 27 pupils.

Jez Durrant, sports editor on the Kent & Sussex Courier won the Spitfire Kent sports journalist of the year.

The
panel of judges included former Daily Telegraph editor WF Deedes,
Jonathan Holborow, former editor of the Mail on Sunday , broadcaster
Bob Holness and Justin Allen, sports writer for The Sun and the News of
The World and the 1997 winner of Shepherd Neame young journalist of the
year.
