Blueprint, the magazine for architecture and design, is gearing up for an overhaul in the October issue.
The revamp follows the appointment of a new team and editor Vicky Richardson. It is expected to be unveiled on 21 September, featuring new columnists and an editorial panel made up of influential designers and critics.
Richardson, who was deputy editor of RIBA Journal before joining Blueprint in March, said: “We want to set a new agenda by investigating the process behind design and architecture, rather than pandering to ‘celebrity’ designers or following an agenda defined by PR companies.”
The changes also coincide with a shake-up of the team. Henrietta Thompson, former deputy editor of New Design, has joined as deputy editor. Junko Fuwa, a former senior designer at Londonbased consultancy Unlimited is art director, and Peter Kelly is editorial assistant.
Richardson took over from Grant Gibson, who left to pursue “other projects” last November.
The title has faced competition from Icon, a rival title set up over the past year by former staff from parent company ETP.
Blueprint is to launch a series of pamphlets featuring controversial arguments on issues facing designers, including housing and the role of the creative industries.
The first Blueprint ‘position paper’ will be distributed free with the September issue out in August. Staff are also gearing up to produce a daily paper for design show 100 per cent Design in September.
