Blue Peter magazine closure

By Press Gazette

Seven editorial jobs have been lost following the closure of BBC Blue Peter magazine.

The BBC said it is hoping to find alternative jobs for staff after the title was forced to close due to poor sales.

Toni Round, publishing director, children’s magazines, said: “While last year’s relaunch of the title created what we all believed to be an incredibly strong pre-teen magazine, sales did not increase in the way we had hoped and expected.” The August issue will be the last.

The magazine launched in June 2001 with an initial print run of 150,000, hoping to attract fans of the popular children’s TV series. It was the first time Blue Peter had been supported by a magazine.
