Bletchley backing

By Press Gazette

The World Association of Newspapers has taken up the case of a People journalist deported by US immigration officials.

Rachael Bletchley was held for 26 hours, handcuffed and denied access to a lawyer at Los Angeles International Airport because she did not have a special journalists’ I-visa.

The WAN has sent a formal protest to US Secretary for Homeland Security Tom Ridge, asking for a full investigation into Bletchley’s detention and for steps to be taken so that “such mistreatment of reporters is not repeated”.
