Birmingham Post’s new deputy

By Press Gazette

The Birmingham Post has appointed Ellen Campbell as its deputy editor, its first since 2003, writes Colin Crummy.

Campbell has been assistant editor at the Western Daily Press in Bristol since December 2003. Her previous jobs were as news editor and assistant news editor on the paper.

Before that, she was a senior reporter at the Daily Echo in Bournemouth and worked with agencies including BN&PS and Newswise Press Agency in Oxford.

The Post’s previous deputy editor, Peter Bacon, left in 2003. Assistant editor Carole Cole went to the Birmingham Mail as deputy in 2005 and was not replaced. Mike Hughes remains as assistant editor, John Duckers as business editor and Barry Kinghorn as sports editor. Head of sport Fraser Thomson took voluntary redundancy this week.

Post editor Marc Reeves said: "Ellen’s experience on a title like the Western Daily Press will be invaluable as we build on the Post’s reputation as the agenda-setting newspaper for the whole of the West Midlands."

A Trinity Mirror spokesperson added: "We see this as a significant strengthening of the Post’s senior team on the content side."
