Birmingham Post reveals rare images of Bullring

By Press Gazette

The Birmingham Post and Mail has delved into its picture archives to stage an exhibition to mark the opening of the £500m Bullring development, writes Dominic Ponsford.

The three-year construction project at the heart of the city was completed in September.

The archive photographs date back to the Twenties and include shots of the Bullring as it once was, a photo of Muhammad Ali visiting Birmingham in the Sixties and more recent pictures of the various stages of construction.

Chief picture editor Adam Fradgley said: “The Bullring, which was central to the making of our city, is now the centrepiece in Birmingham’s shopping experience.

“The 36 rarely seen photographs on display are a snapshot of how much the city has changed.

“Many of the great pictures captured on film by our photographers have only been viewed once in paper. This is a unique chance to see them again.”

The “Visions of the Bullring” exhibition is at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery until 7 January.

Entrance is free.
