Fiona
Alexander resigned today as editor of the Birmingham Post after two
years in the job. She has taken up the post of director of
communications for University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
She has been on maternity leave for the last few months. Tony
Lennox has been acting editor, while Alexander was on leave.
Alexander was appointed editor of the Post in August 2003,
succeeding Dan Mason who had resigned abruptly the previous March.
She pledged to relaunch the Post as a “must-read newspaper finely
focused on its core audience – the business and commercial community
and all those associated with it”. The Post was then selling 17,238.
Its latest ABC is 13,934.
Alexander was business development director for the Birmingham Post
& Mail and before that editor-in-chief of Midland Independent
Magazines. She was previously an award-winning editor of the Sunday
Mercury.
She told staff today that her new job was “a career opportunity she
could not turn down”.
