Wolverhampton radio station Beacon FM is being investigated by the Attorney General’s office after broadcasting a phone-in which may have prejudiced the Soham trial, writes Sarah Boden.
Mark Peters and Lisa Freame, presenters on the breakfast show, invited listeners to ring or text them to let then know whether they thought Ian Huntley was being truthful.
Under the 1981 Contempt of Court Act, journalists are forbidden from writing or airing material which creates a “substantial risk of serious prejudice to particular proceedings”.
A spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s office confirmed it was looking into the matter after Cambridgeshire police passed on material from the show.
The GWR-owned radio station refused to comment on the incident, but confirmed that Peters and Freame were currently on leave.
