The BBC has appointed Jawad Iqbal, weekend editor for Television News, as editor of BBC Four’s news bulletin This World, writes Wale Azeez.
Incumbent Mariita Eager has been moved over to News 24 as a strand editor, after barely six months in the job.
Iqbal, a former output editor on the BBC Six O’Clock News and assistant editor on the Ten O’Clock News, also becomes a member of the management team on BBC World – the broadcaster’s commercially funded international news channel.
Eager was appointed editor of This World in January, to replace Amanda Farnsworth, who is now editor of the Six O’Clock News.
BBC News 24 strand editor David Kermode becomes the weekend editor for Television News. He will be in charge of all BBC One bulletins and output on the news channels across weekends.
Aziz Rashid, currently deputy editor of BBC Breakfast, will replace Kermode on News 24.
Both Iqbal and Kermode were promoted to assistant editor as part of BBC head of TV news Roger Mosey’s revamp of the news teams just after the last General Election. Kermode became assistant editor on the One O’Clock News before returning to News 24 as a strand editor.
