A BBC project to bring children's radio to the war-torn Sudanese region of Darfur has been recognised at an international awards ceremony.
Darfur Lifeline, the World Service Trust's humanitarian radio scheme in Sudan, picked up first prize in the Radio For Peacebuilding Awards for its children's programme, Draw Your Place On Earth.
The 30-minute programme, broadcast twice-weekly on the World Service aims to bring together children from the displaced groups in the region with a magazine-style format of stories, real-life testimonies and drama.
Darfur Lifeline was founded early this year by the World Service, and is funded by the Department for International Development in Sudan.
The children's programme editor, Zeinab Mubarak, said: "Winning the prize is wonderfully gratifying — especially that it came after almost a year of work in very challenging conditions."
Mubarak and her team operate out of a base in Nyala, in the south of Darfur, compiling the programme, which is broadcast in Darfuri Arabic.
The project also broadcasts a news and discussion programme for adults.
