BBC to rebrand TV and online news services

By Press Gazette

The BBC is looking to change the look of its domestic news outlets, including its rolling-news service News 24 and its news website, in order to create a single brand, BBC News.

The plans come as part of BBC director general Mark Thompson's Creative Futures initiative, in which all the corporation's output will be rebranded.

This could mean that bulletins such as the BBC's One O'Clock News, Six O'Clock News, News 24 service and news website will soon share the same design and look.

One of the plans in the pipeline involves making BBC News 24 and the BBC News website share the same maroon and grey colour scheme already in use in BBC One's main news bulletins.

It is rumoured that the BBC's new-look website will go live within a few months, with BBC News 24 following soon afterwards.

The corporation's plans include renaming BBC News 24 as BBC News, which will complete the unification of news output on TV, radio and the internet.

However, a spokeswoman told Press Gazette that plans of the changes and details of when the public will see the new-look BBC News services have not yet been confirmed as BBC News executives continue to review the proposals.
