BBC Radio Kent reporter and presenter Barbara Sturgeon is leaving the station at the end of the month after 20 years of broadcasting to the region.
Sturgeon, currently hosting the station’s lunchtime news and The Barbara Sturgeon Show current affairs programme, is moving on to pursue other interests “both inside and outside the world of broadcasting”.
She began her radio career in the Kent area in 1983 when she joined the former BBC Radio Medway and has remained within the region, apart from a two-year stint at BBC Radio 2 in 1989.
Prior to that, Sturgeon won the Sony Local Radio Personality of the Year Award in both 1987 and 1988, with a bronze nomination in 1989 for her live report on the birth of a baby.
BBC Radio Kent managing editor Robert Wallace said: “It goes without saying that Barbara’s departure will be a great loss to BBC Radio Kent and she will be greatly missed by staff, contributors and listeners alike.
“Barbara is a professional broadcaster of the highest order and her impressive reputation extends well beyond the borders of Kent.”
