Ride magazine has appointed Stefan Bartlett, currently managing editor of road tests on Motor Cycle News, as its editor.
Bartlett takes over from Ride editor Peter Baker, who switched titles and joined MCN to replace former deputy Marc Potter, who was promoted to editor in the summer.
Bartlett said: “There will be changes on Ride, but it’s not a question of the magazine being broken and needing to be fixed. Staff have been without an editor for a while and it’s been a period of uncertainty for them, but I’m happy the team I’ve got will be able to deliver the things I want.”
Bartlett has worked on MCN since March 1996, working his way up from sports editor to news editor, assistant editor and managing editor of road tests. Prior to MCN, he worked for regional papers in the West Midlands, including Birmingham’s Evening Mail and the Sunday Mercury, where he was motoring correspondent and assistant editor.
Ride will be his first editorship.
Although the subject matter is much the same as MCN – also owned by Emap – it will involve a change of pace from weekly to monthly deadlines.
“MCN is a news-based tabloid weekly and Ride is a very ‘real world’ type publication with product testing,” he said. “We will continue to do that but I hope in 12 months’ time we will look at Ride and feel it’s moved on significantly.”
Meanwhile, MCN has promoted Mark Tucker to art editor and its sister title MaxPower has appointed Ben Barry to be the new deputy editor.
Barry has replaced Will Lawrence, who left to join Emap’s film title Empire as deputy editor.
