Former editor of the Jerusalem Post Jeff Barak has been confirmed as the new editor of the weekly Jewish Chronicle.
He takes over from Ned Temko who has joined the Observer as chief political correspondent.
Barak
has been at the Jewish Chronicle for three years and before that spent
three years as editor of the Jerusalem Post, which coincided with the
first 18 months of the intifada.
He said of that period: “The hard thing about it was that suicide bombings became the order of the day.”
Barak said he decided to move to the Jewish Chronicle partly to give his children a chance to grow up in England.
Circulation has dropped more than 10,000 over the last decade and the title now sells 35,427 copies.
Barak said: “I am looking to make some changes to the paper and hopefully increase circulation. That’s my main challenge.”
