Anne-Marie Curtis has been named the new fashion director of Elle – the title where she began her career in fashion journalism as an intern in the late 1980s.
Curtis has been given the brief to reinvent the fashion pages and promote up and coming talent She takes over from Elle’s former fashion director Iain Webb, who quit earlier this year to go freelance.
Candy said she was “incredibly inspired” by Curtis, whom she suggested would bring a “refreshing and original vision” to the magazine.
“I want to create something new at Elle and she is the person to do that,” Candy added.
“Elle is not a shopping magazine like all the other glossies – it is a fashion magazine .
“We need to be the best in the business right now, staying one step ahead of the game and predicting trends, rather than reflecting them.
“I think Anne-Marie has the fashion authority and reputation to do that.”
Curtis was a founder member and fashion director of Wallpaper and fashion director on its spin off magazine, Spruce.
She left Wallpaper last year, and has since freelanced as a fashion stylist and consultant, contributing to titles such as Glamour and the Saturday Times Magazine.
The appointment comes hot on the heels of the recent signing of Elle’s new creative director Marissa Bourke, who joined from Vogue.
