Aussie group names UK launch editor

By Press Gazette

Cleo: could be basis for UK launch

Now deputy editor Vicky Mayer has been poached to head the debut launch for the UK subsidiary of magazine giant Australian Consolidated Press.

Mayer is to take up the editor-inchief role ahead of a major launch later this year. She would not comment on her plans, except to say: “I’m really excited. It’s a very good opportunity.”

ACP, the largest consumer magazine publisher in the Asia Pacific region, has announced plans to expand in the UK through launches and acquisitions and is actively looking at the women’s, entertainment, home and gardens and teenage markets. The move could result in launches based on some of ACP’s most successful titles such as Cleo and Dolly.

ACP UK chief executive Colin Morrison has recruited a team of eight and is hoping to have a launch under his belt by Christmas. He told Press Gazette: “We are in varying stages of research. We won’t be held to any particular timetable, but I hope to have a launch by the end of this year.”

Launches are likely to take elements of ACP’s existing titles as opposed to being direct replicas for a UK audience.

Prior to Now, Mayer was editor of Time Out, having previously been editorial director for Pacific Publications in Australia. She joins ACP on 5 April.
