As Leveson Inquiry gets underway, MPs put News International execs on the rack again

By Press Gazette

As the Leveson Inquiry into press standards and phone-hacking got underway – MPs again interrogated former News of the World executives about the affair.

Among the questions they demanded answers to were:

  • Why was jailed News of the World royals reporter Clive Goodman given a £230,000 pay-off despite being jailed for committing a criminal offence?
  • How much did James Murdoch know about Gordon Taylor’s £1m phone-hack legal payout and the now infamous ‘For Neville’ email transcript?
  • And why was a story apparently based on Milly Dowler’s hacked mobile phone messages drastically changed between editions in April 2002?
