Arran Banner is bought by Oban Times Group

By Press Gazette

The Oban Times Group has acquired the Arran Banner, the weekly paper for the Isle of Arran.

Founded 29 years ago and based in Brodick, the island’s capital, the Banner has been owned by John and Deanna Millar for more than 20 years.

John Miller will continue to contribute to the paper.

Oban Times Group managing director Howard Bennett said he would do everything possible to ensure the Banner continued to serve the island’s community. “While we will be able to assist the future development of the Banner, it is the paper’s established editorial integrity which was such an important consideration behind our interest in the title.”

He added: “The paper will stay as it is as we’re very happy with the way it is put together, although there will eventually have to be new technology brought in but it won’t effect the number of staff.”

The paper has an unofficial circulation of 2,800 in the winter months and 4,000 in the summer. It has an international subscriber list of over 800.
