The former editor of
the Bristol Evening Post, Mike Lowe, is joining Archant to edit its
monthly lifestyle magazine Cotswold Life.
Lowe left the Evening
Post abruptly last June after nine years editing the title. His
departure came as Northcliffe introduced its Aim Higher cost-saving
exercise.
He was replaced by Derby Evening Telegraph editor Mike
Norton who took up the role of editor-in-chief to oversee a portfolio
of titles, including the Western Daily Press.
The Evening Post
was the highest selling evening paper in the Southwest under Lowe’s
editorship, with sales around the 60,000-a-day mark.
Cotswold Life sells 13,441.
Lowe
said: “I’ve spent many happy years living in Gloucestershire and have
been a Cotswold Life reader throughout that time. It’s an excellent
magazine and I’m looking forward to the challenge of this new
discipline. I’m also pleased to be joining Archant Life, which has
impressed me as a forwardthinking and ambitious organisation.”
He starts his new role on 1 March.
Lowe
joined Northcliffe in 1983 on the Lincolnshire Echo, later moving to
the Hull Daily Mail, the Derby Evening Telegraph and The Sentinel,
Stoke. He edited The Citizen in Gloucester from 1988 to 1991 before
returning to Derby as editor of the Evening Telegraph. He was made
editor of the Bristol Evening Post in 1996.
