Mizz has marked its 500th issue with a bumper edition and a 16-page ‘Spooky’ pullout, writes Ruth Addicott.
Extra colours have been added to the cover to give it a glossier appearance and the editorial has adopted a party theme throughout with the ‘Spooky Special’ printed upside down in the centre pages.
Mizz launched in 1985 featuring celebrity gossip and real-life issues. Aimed at 10- to 14-year-old girls, it has faced stiff competition over the past few years and, like rivals, has come under increasing pressure to covermount. Its last ABC figure was 100,298.
Despite the decline, editor Sharon Christal said the 500th birthday issue was “a tremendous achievement” and the extra pages gave the magazine more value.
The 500th issue also features interviews with popstars Jamelia, Lemar, Blue and McFly. It went on sale this week priced £1.60.
