BBC Magazines has contributed to record profits for the commercial arm of the corporation as it plans an extensive launch strategy that will take it further into the global market.
A number of launches, still unconfirmed by BBC Magazines, are in the works – including Newsbrief, the current affairs weekly.
Another title, essentially a compilation of content from its specialist magazines based in Bristol, is also in the pipeline, but has yet to be approved.
Following subscription testing of its Gardens Illustrated magazine in the US, the new magazine will hope to win over an anglophile audience with BBC-branded editorial from its Bristol portfolio including BBC Focus, Music and History.
Other titles confirmed for this year include Countryfile and In the Night Garden, based on BBC programmes.
In its annual review published last Thursday (28 June), BBC Magazines sales rose to £171.3m and profits to £20m, a rise from last year’s sales of £163.7m and profit of £19.3m.
