National press ABCs: i, Times, Telegraph and Star titles grow print circulation year on year

By Dominic Ponsford

Increased bulk free give-away copies helped The Times and Daily Telegraph both increase their print circulations year on year in May 2016.

The i also slightly grew its print sale both month and month and year on year as it reaped the benefit of the closure at the end of March of sister title The Independent.

By far the best performing national newspaper print title is the Daily Star, which grew 22 per cent year on year thanks to the fact it is heavily discounted (at 20p).

It appears to be mainly taking readers from the Daily Mirror, which fell 10.4 per cent year on year to an average of 778,650 copies per day.
