Report: BBC mulls News at Ten revamp as Tom Bradby boosts ITV ratings

By Dominic Ponsford

The BBC is planning to revamp News at Ten after Tom Bradby has delivered a boost in viewers on ITV, according to The Times.

Former ITV news political editor moved to become main presenter of the ITV News at Ten last month.

Since then, The Times reports that nightly viewing figures have increased to 2m for the ITV nightly news, compared with around 1.5m in September.

It reports that the BBC bulletin, fronted by Huw Edwards, attracts around 4m viewers a night.

Plans under consideration at the BBC reportedly include a new studio and an extension to the length of the show.

Meanwhile, BBC economics editor Robert Peston is set to further strengthen ITV News when he joins as political editor on a reported salary of £330,000 a year.
