Pearson is "exploring a sale of the Financial Times after receiving interest from potential buyers", Bloomberg Business reports.
The Financial Times Group, a division of Pearson PLC, includes the paper, website, a 50 per cent shareholding in The Economist and a joint venture with Vedomosti in Russia.
Media company Axel Springer SE has been named in reports as possibly having an interest but neither it nor Pearson has commented.
Bloomberg LP is another company which might have an interest in buying the FT Group, which has been valued at up to £1bn.
The FT claims to have more than 500,000 digital subscribers. The Economist claims global weekly print circulation of 1.6m.
The FT Group does not report a separate profit and loss figure. It is part Pearson Profession which reported adjusted operating profit last year of £106m on turnover of £1.2bn.
