The Sunday People saw a near 10 per cent circulation rise this weekend with its exclusive images of the England fan who had part of his ear bitten off in Brazil.
Both the People and The Sun on Sunday featured the story on their front pages, but only the Trinity Mirror title had the exclusive photograph, which was a still frame from a video.
Press Gazette understands the People sold an extra 30,000 or so copies on the previous Sunday this weekend.
Looking at May’s average sale of 374,000, this would bring the title’s circulation for the day to around the 400,000.
The story reported how Robert Farquharson was attacked in the Arena Corinthians stadium after England's 2-1 defeat to Uruguay on 19 June.
The Mirror.co.uk website also featured the video exclusively, which it claimed was viewed nearly 180,000 times within 48 hours.
