Former Telegraph staffers join Times as City and enterprise editors

By William Turvill

The Times has recruited two former Telegraph journalists as it expands its business coverage.

After four years at The Daily Telegraph, Harry Wilson has joined the paper as City editor. He was previously banking editor at Dow Jones Financial News.

Meanwhile, after less than a year working in PR at Albion, James Hurley (pictured) has also joined The Times. Previously he was enterprise editor across both Telegraph newspapers for more than three years.

The Times has also redesigned its newspaper business section, adding four extra pages a day, and developed new digital features. These include a live blog, Business Now, and a morning briefing email.

Richard Fletcher, the business editor who also joined The Times from the Telegraph earlier this year, said the pair "join us at an exciting time as we relaunch the business section with innovative digital features, brilliant new writers and even more comprehensive coverage".

He said: "Independent surveys have shown that The Times is the preferred newspaper of the business audience.  We're determined to maintain this position by delivering content in new and creative ways, and being the first to provide readers with insightful reporting, analysis and opinion."

Columnists for the section include Sky’s business presenter Ian King, as well as Louise Cooper, Ed Conway, Sathnam Sang and Philip Aldrick.

Deirdre Hipwell has moved from covering property to mergers and acquisitions and the private equity sector. Kathryn Hopkins will take over on property while also covering economics with Philip Aldrick. Alex Ralph will join the new online business team and deputy editor Andrew Clark is taking over retail coverage.
