Channel 4 has opened applications for the next round of its investigative journalism training scheme – with applications due by the end of this month.
The project is now in its third year and aims to develop skills in the next generation of investigative television journalists, as well as helping those already in the industry make a step up the career ladder.
This year the channel is offering two different programmes. The first is made up of four trainee placements on the Dispatches current affairs series, which will be paid positions for a minimum of six months (two in London, one in Manchester and one in Glasgow).
This first group is for relatively inexperienced television journalists and those outside the industry who show great promise.
The second part of the scheme involves bespoke training for more experienced investigative producers, tailor-made around the skills they feel they need to move their career on.
This strand will show those already in documentary film-making how to reach more senior levels and improve their filming, editing and investigative techniques.
Channel 4 said: "For both schemes, we want our team to be like our audience, full of different attitudes, ideas and opinions. We just want you to have a burning desire to make extraordinary journalism."
Candidates must be over 18 to apply and the deadline is 31 March. Full details can be found here.
An executive producer at one of the independent production companies involved with the project said: "It's a fantastic scheme. I run one of the companies which will take a trainee, and we've been involved in the scheme since its inception.
"The trainees we took on through the scheme are still working with us."
