Richard Fletcher today joined The Times as business editor after two years working as editor of the Telegraph website.
He is a former City editor of Telegraph and was also financial editor and then City editor of The Sunday Times from 2004 to 2006.
Times editor John Witherow said that Fletcher “brings experience, energy and a formidable network of contacts to the role”.
Fletcher said: “I’ve long admired The Times’ business section, it represents best-in-class financial journalism. I'm very excited to be returning to writing about business."
The appointment follows the news that previous Times business editor Ian King is leaving to fill Jeff Randall’s shoes hosting a nightly programme on Sky News.
In December it was announced that Kamal Ahmed was leaving the role of Telegraph business editor to take over from Robert Peston in the same role at the BBC.
