Trinity Mirror launches third in series of city-specific free Scottish weeklies

By Gavriel Hollander

Trinity Mirror subsidiary Media Scotland has rebranded its free weekly the Glaswegian as Glasgow Now to bring it into line with its other recently launched free city titles.

Glasgow Now follows in the footsteps of similar Media Scotland titles In Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Unlike its sister publications, Glasgow Now is not a supplement in the Daily Record but will be distributed free every Wednesday as a stand-alone title.

The new paper will replace existing title the Glaswegian from today and will be distributed every Wednesday.

“Today marks another major milestone in the company’s development,” said Allan Rennie, Media Scotland’s editor in chief. “Glasgow Now takes the best of the Glaswegian and combines it with the best of our city titles. It has a contemporary, bold design and will be championing the city and the extraordinary people who live here.”

Newly announced columnists include the Labour leader of Glasgow Council Gordon Matheson, Scottish National Party MSP Humza Yousaf. Fashion writer Zoe Wilson and Clyde 1 radio presenters Diane Knox-Campbell and Shebahn Littlejohn have also been signed up.

Weekly sports coverage will be increased and include a column on Partick Thistle FC.

Trinity Mirror, Media Scotland’s parent company, hope the introduction of a Glasgow title aligned with the other city-centric publications, will offer advertisers “a comprehensive package across Scotland’s three largest cities”.

Helena Morrow, commercial manager at Media Scotland, said: “Today’s development brings the paper formerly known as the Glaswegian into line with our two other city titles.

“This ensures advertisers get their message across to large numbers of readers in a convenient and standardised format both digitally and in print.”

Edinburgh Now was launched in June, following Aberdeen Now, which hit the streets earlier in the year.
