Scottish-based regional publisher DC Thomson has created a new editor-in-chief role for its four Aberdeen titles.
Aberdeen Press and Journal editor Damian Bates will take on the role, covering the Evening Express, Citizen and ScotAds. while continuing his current role as editor of the flagship daily paper.
Ellis Watson, chief executive of DC Thomson’s publishing arm, said: “We’re pleased to appoint Damian in this new position which shows our commitment to Aberdeen Journals, not only to our staff members but also to the wider communities we represent.
“Damian will play a key role in all DC Thomson developments, representing the Aberdeen business in internal and external matters.”
Bates joined the group’s Aberdeen titles as deputy editor of the Evening Express in August 2003. He became Evening Express editor in 2006 before taking up his current position at the Press and Journal in 2011.
The Press and Journal, one of the oldest local newspapers in the country, has an average daily circulation of 66,679, according to the latest figures from ABC.
