Former Coventry Telegraph health reporter Warren Manger has landed a job on the Sunday Mirror features desk after being a finalist at the British Journalism Awards.
Manger was shortlisted for the science journalist of the year award after he led a campaign to secure life-saving surgery for two readers.
The first British Journalism Awards, held in December last year, were organised by Press Gazette.
He joined the national at the end of April after five years at sister title the Coventry Telegraph.
The Telegraph today features a story about Manger dressed as a gnome at the Chelsea Flower Show for the Sunday Mirror as he celebrated the festival’s lifting of a 100-year ban on them.
He said: “If you thought my days of getting my ugly mug in the paper were over now I’m at the Mirror, think again.
“Yesterday I spent the afternoon at the Chelsea Flower Show, dressed as a gnome.
"Highlights included pictures with the unflappable Jon Snow and the formidable Alastair Campbell, who I managed to stun into silence.
“So much for integrity, dignity and serious journalism.”
