Crediton Courier switches from fortnightly to weekly newspaper

By William Turvill

The Crediton Courier has announced it is “bucking the trend” by switching from a fortnightly to a weekly publication.

The Tindle Newspapers title was founded in 1974 as a monthly and then became a fortnightly around ten years later.

The paper claims to have a circulation of 3,200 per issue and a readership of around 10,000.

Editorial manager Alan Quick said the new weekly, which will cost 50p, was being launched for the benefit of both readers and advertisers.

He said: “Providing our readers with what they want in terms of local news will continue and we will now be able to improve on this service.

“Readers will receive more pages of news content, with a quicker delivery service and with the same editorial excellence they have come to expect.

“We are bucking the trend in a newspaper industry which has seen hard times, of late.

“We serve a wonderful community and we try to reflect that. The ‘Courier’ will continue with the same ethos and appeal that it has from all its readers and advertisers.”

Sean Constable, general manager, said switching to a weekly is something he has been "yearning" for since he took up his position at the Devon title in 2006.

He said: “I am really proud of the team we have at the moment. We all strive to achieve the best possible paper for our readers and advertisers. It is this determination which sees us taking this huge leap of faith.

“There has been enough editorial to fill the paper weekly for some time, and now, we look to deliver on this demand.”

“I look forward to seeing how the Courier progresses forward and hearing from you, our readers about how we are doing, after all, we provide the Courier for your benefit.”
