500,000-strong Girl Guides group adds support to No More Page 3 petition

The UK’s largest organisation for girls and young women, The Girl Guides, has today added its support to the ‘No more Page Three’ petition urging The Sun to stop publishing topless photos.

The petition, which has over 90,000 signatures urges Dominic Mohan, editor of The Sun, to "Take The Bare Boobs Out Of The Sun".

The move was made by the half a million strong youth organisation after an online poll of 2062 members aged between 16 and 25 revealed 88 per cent believed The Sun should change Page Three.

The decision to hold a vote on the campaign was taken by Girlguiding Advocates, a panel of young women aged between 14 and 25 who are behind The Girl Guides' advocacy work.

The advocates explained in a statement: “The Sun is a family newspaper. Anyone can pick it up, turn to Page Three, and think that it is normal for young women to be treated as objects. This is just wrong.”

In February News Corp chief executive Rupert Murdoch reportedly made comments on twitter which suggested he was considering dropping the page which has been a feature of The Sun since 1970.
