Mail on Sunday replaces Live magazine with EVENT amid ‘£3m’ marketing push

By Press Gazette

The Mail on Sunday is to replace its Live magazine supplement with a new title called EVENT which it says it is supporting with a £3m marketing campaign.

Live replaced the Mail on Sunday’s Night and Day supplement in October 2005 and has won a number of awards for its investigative features.

According to the MoS the new supplement will run to 80 pages (rather than 60 for Live) and feature a “fresh and exclusive take each week on celebrity, film, music, TV and radio, books, theatre, comedy, food, technology and cars”.

It is said to be aimed at both men and women and goes out for the first time on 14 April.

MoS editor Geordie Greig said: “It’s a modern one-stop shop for everything readers will want in today’s modern culture – film, art , TV, celebrities and interviews. It’s the essential guide to what’s on – and what’s going on.”

Former editor of Time Out and the Sunday Times website Gordon Thomson has been appointed editor of the new title.

He said: “ EVENT will stand out from the competition. For anyone with a keen interest in populist culture and superb journalism, there really is nothing else like it.”

The new title will include seven-day TV and radio listings as well as columns by Piers Morgan on life in Hollywood, Chris Evans on cars, Deborah Ross on TV and a restaurant column by Tom Parker Bowles.

The 22-page critics section will include Craig Brown on books, Matthew Bond on film, Tim de Lisle on popular music, Georgina Brown on theatre, David Mellor on classical music and opera, Rob Waugh on technology and Olly Smith on wine.
