Guardian News and Media’s digital operation has been hit by the double departure of mobile chief Steve Wing and head of digital engagement Meg Pickard.
Mobile director Wing, who joined the group in 1999, took up his current role in January having previously been head of digital marketing, when he was tasked with growing the mobile, tablet and e-reader side of the business.
A GNM spokesperson said: “GNM’s Mobile Director, Steve Wing, has decided to leave GNM and will be taking up a new role with CBS interactive in November.
“Steve’s contribution to the business has not only spanned many years, but many areas, and he will be hugely missed by all his colleagues.
“But we appreciate that this is a great opportunity for him and we of course wish him all the best.”
Pickard, meanwhile, has announced that is leaving the company after six years.
Pickard said that from the beginning of next year she will move on to do independent consulting and project work in the areas of digital engagement, social strategies, product innovation, community practice and creative collaboration.
On her personal blog she wrote: “As you may know, I’ve been working in this broad area for over fifteen years now as practitioner, strategist and academic, with a range of big-name brands, nonprofits and start-ups, but my curiosity and passion for it has endured and even intensified as technologies, media and societies continue to evolve.”
