Indy’s Bell drops a clanger over Plymouth Argyle

Axegrinder suspects that Independent on Sunday diarist Matthew Bell is not a big fan of the beautiful game.

At the weekend, he ran a piece about former Labour Party leader Michael Foot, age 95, a lifelong supporter of Plymouth Argyle, turning up to see the side’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal on Saturday. His story began: “It’s not been a great season for Plymouth, having won only one out of six matches in the Championship.”

The football season kicked off on August 9 so, according to Bell, Plymouth have played only six times in five months, or one game every three-and-a-half weeks. Quite an easy life, then, being a Plymouth player.

If the clueless Indy hack visits Argyle’s official website he will discover that the side currently lies 15th in the Championship table, having won not once but nine times from 26 matches.
