The Daily Mail was able to claim an early victory on day two of its commendable campaign to “Banish the Bags” when Marks & Spencer announced it was to stop offering free plastic bags.
Axegrinder felt that it was a bit of topspin for the Mail to claim that it had brought about the Marks & Sparks rethink on bags.
As long ago as May 2007, the retailer announced a trial in Northern Ireland where it charged for bags to encourage customers to instead use a “bag for life”, as part of a plan to improve its green credentials.
